100. Hollyhood x Buddy
Release Date: October 30th, 2019
Buddy starts off this years list with a very catchy record. The Compton rapper makes you want to bob your head throughout his verses, and then smoothly interpolates Rufus & Chaka Khan's 1977 record "Hollywood", which was also sampled by J. Cole on "St. Tropez".
99. Ghetto Sunday x H-D
Release Date: June 19th, 2019
H-D is an artist that I came across when I seen a viral tweet of this record. He eerily sounds like a young Jay-Z, the mannerisms, the flow, the command of the sample...something I haven't seen anyone do this well. The crazy part of it is that this isn't an act for this one record, this is really how he sounds, and I respect that. "Ghetto Sunday" is a beautiful record, and if you close your eyes and just listen, you pretty much have a new Jay-Z record.
98. Lost & Found x YBN Cordae
Release Date: July 26th, 2019
YBN Cordae makes his first appearance on this list with his outdo from his debut album The Lost Boy. This record is the perfect ending for the ending, as he seems to find himself, as he says "I was a lost boy not I'm found" and continues on to murder this instrumental for 2 minutes straight. This is just the beginning for the young artist (22 years old), and with a Grammy nomination and co-signs from hip-hop legends, the future is brighter than ever.
97. That's Why I Love You (feat. Sabrina Claudio) x SiR
Release Date: August 30th, 2019
SiR and Sabrina Claudio describe a toxic but loving relationship on this smooth record. The two are in love, and they both know it, but they keep the relationship strictly sexual. Though the two think about it to themselves, they've chosen to never say anything, which makes the love they have even stronger. This record is amazing, and SiR provides a great male R&B perspective to the Top Dawg Entertainment lineup.
96. Motivation x Normani
Release Date: August 16th, 2019
Normani has shown she can easily be a solo star, and it continues with "Motivation". This pop record is super upbeat and catchy, a beautiful song. Ariana Grande co-wrote the record, which you can hear more with each listen. Normani pays homage to multiple different throwback music videos in her own. A black woman is a pop star ladies and gentlemen, accept it.
95. Handouts (feat. Pusha T) x Kai Ca$h
Release Date: July 26th, 2019
CYN's Kai Ca$h enlists the rap legend Pusha T for a braggadocios record on his debut project. Kai speaks about his come up, not needing anyones help along the way. Push's verse provides another level of bragging, as he's already cemented himself in the rap game. A great record from a young artist who's CYN movement has made a lot of progress since its inception.
94. Around The World (feat. Too $hort) [Remix] x Larry June
Release Date: November 14th, 2019
Larry June makes very smooth music, and the Bay Area artist didn't disappoint at all on this record. His flow reminded me of Mac Dre a little bit with the slight mannerisms on certain words, refreshing from an artist today. He also got a Bay Area legend to join him on the record, and Too $hort did what he does best, talked about his pimpin. A great Bay Area record to play while you cruise in the whip, definitely gonna be in rotation next summer.
93. Izayah (feat. Key!, Maxo Kream & Denzel Curry) x Guapdad 4000
Release Date: October 25th, 2019
Guapdad 4000 makes his first appearance on the list with this high energy group record. The Bitcoin Batman and friends rap about the different ways they get money, and on the chorus, Guapdad lets the people know he's robbing the bank too. Maxo Kream's verse is amazing, and Denzel Curry wraps the record up flawlessly, using multiple flows. Everyone's confidence on this record shows, a feel good record that you have to play loud.
92. THRU THE NIGHT (feat. Bryson Tiller) x Jack Harlow
Release Date: August 21st, 2019
Jack Harlow samples Usher's classic "U Don't Have To Call" to already bring a familiar sound to the listener on this record. It's fast paced feel makes you wanna dance, and Jack flows smoothly over the instrumental. Harlow also gets Bryson Tiller to join him on the record, bringing a great sound as Tiller raps over the beat as well. The video is perfect for the song, as the two are in a skating rink.
91. Slide (feat. YG) x H.E.R.
Release Date: September 27th, 2019
H.E.R. is one of the Bay Area's most successful artists as of late, winning 2 Grammys at the awards last year. The young artist made a record paying homage to the West Coast, specifically where she's from, Vallejo, CA. This record is a play on the popular Bay Area term "slide", from the perspective of a young lover. YG provides a verse only he can give, as the smooth record provides a backdrop for almost any setting. Baby when we gon slide?
90. Bay Area Funk x IamSu!
Release Date: November 13th, 2019
IamSu shows off his rap skills for almost 2 minutes straight on this record. His wordplay, multiple flows, and high energy make this record a fun listen. Su did this in one take, the Bay Area legend had to show off his skills and remind people how underrated he is in hip-hop.

87. Like That (feat. Gucci Mane) x Doja Cat

Doja Cat has cemented herself among the new wave of female artists, and with this record she was able to create a hit with a hip-hop legend. The infectious beat catches the ear of the listener, and then Doja showcases her talents as she sings the chorus and raps over the instrumental. Gucci does what Gucci does best during his feature, and altogether the world was given a great song.
86. Stuck With It (feat. Tory Lanez) x Guapdad 4000
Release Date: October 25th, 2019
Guapdad 4000 made a lot fo connections this year (more appear on this list), and one of the best produced this record. Tory Lanez provided an amazing hook and feature verse for this record, and the high energy that Tory brings to the table even required Guapdad to step out of his comfort zone and make sure his verses were at the right pitch. This record shows how versatile an artist Guapdad 4000 is, and 2019's debut album is only the beginning.
85. Type Beat x P-Lo
Release Date: June 5th, 2019
P-Lo has been a major figure in the Bay Area music scene all decade, and this record is everything you expect in a P-Lo song. It has the bass, the bragging rhymes, the catchy hook, and the adlibs throughout. P-Lo also always stays true to his roots, as the hook pays homage to the Bay Area, as well as a few rhymes throughout the record. The slow rise to national fame for P-Lo is great to see, and it'll continue into the next decade.
84. Ladies, Ladies, Ladies (feat. JID & T.I.) x Dreamville
Release Date: July 5th, 2019
Dreamville's Revenge Of The Dreamers III was one of hip-hop's greatest moments of the year, as artists from all over were invited to private sessions, where records for this album and even for solo albums that aren't released yet were created. This record in particular is a remake of Jay-Z's 2001 hit "Girls, Girls, Girls", one of a few this year, and JID and TI both speak about the women they've dealt wit him their pasts. A very smooth record that's an easy listen.
83. MOOD 4 EVA x Beyoncé, Jay-Z, & Childish Gambino
Release Date: July 18th, 2019
The Lion King soundtrack was automatically going to be amazing knowing that Beyoncé was heavily involved (as she played the role of Nala in the film's remake), and " MOOD 4 EVA" did not disappoint. Bey does what she does best with her vocals throughout the record, and Childish Gambino (played the role of Simba in the remake) is also featured on the record. Jay-Z even provides a great rap feature over this instrumental, which samples Oumou Sangaré’s “Diaraby Nene” (A cold from love), released in 1989.
82. Hot Girl Summer (feat. Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign) x Megan Thee Stallion
Release Date: August 9th, 2019
Megan Thee Stallion burst onto the scene this year, and has been one of the most influential people in the industry this year, especially fo her iconic phrase "Hot Girl Summer". The summer was filled with memes and jokes, but also women handling business and living their best lives. In the middles of the season, Meg was able to collaborate with the great Nicki Minaj and get Ty Dolla $ign to do one of his iconic hooks and create an anthem for the phrase. This record has since been certified platinum, a song that is a major point in the young star's career.
81. Under The Sun (feat. J. Cole, DaBaby & Lute) x Dreamville
Release Date: July 5th, 2019
Dreamville's run in 2019 is something that we'll all look back on in awe honestly. This record is the introduction to the label's collaboration album, and is an amazing one. The instrumental samples and interpolates the 1963 gospel classic "I'll Be Waiting for You" by The Argo Singers, and J. Cole's verse full of fast paced bars ends and the listeners got a surprise feature on the hook from Kendrick Lamar (further fueling the rumors about the long awaited collaboration album between the two rap giants). Lute provides more fast paced bars and destroys this soul instrumental as well, but DaBaby's lyrical breakdown over this instrumental was great, due to the fact that listeners hadn't heard the new rapper over any instrumental like this before. Based on the performance by the trio, I'm sure that no one would mind more material from these 3 North Carolina emcees.
80. Nights Like This (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) x Kehlani
Release Date: January 10th, 2019
Kehlani's first single of the year was also her first collaboration with LA's Ty Dolla $ign. The record is all about relationships, the dishonestly and toxicity between two people that continue to go back and hurt themselves. Kehlani's voice is strong on this one, and Ty provides the perfect voice opposite of hers. A smooth record for the night, but don't be in your feelings and turn this one on, you may not make it.
79. Kid Cudi (Pissy Pamper) [feat. Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, & A$AP Rocky] x Young Nudy
Release (Leak) Date: April 18th, 2019
This record has never officially released (and most likely won't due to sample clearance issues), but it's forsake the second most viral song of the year (the most viral record is coming up at #72). The song leaked on April 18th, and the industry instantly clung onto Playboi Carti's infectious but tongue-tying hook. Sadly the sample of 1980's "Twilight / たそがれ" by the iconic Japanese singer Mai Yamane was never cleared, which has us in the position we're in as listeners. The record also was set to potentially have features from Lil Uzi Vert, A$AP Rocky, and Pierre Bourne. The version I have available to listen to doesn't have Pierre on it, but the song slaps regardless.
78. Ride Dat (feat Lil' Wayne) x Birdman & Juvenile
Release Date: August 29th, 2019
Juvenile hasn't lost a step at all since his heyday when he let the world know Cash Money Records was taking over from the '99 to the 2000s. This bounce infused instrumental is just perfect, as Juvie's flow over the beat makes you feel like its Freaknik. Birdman usually isn't the one you wanna hear rapping, but his verse is great as well, smooth flow, and he doesn't sound out of place at all. Lil' Wayne comes in with his raspy flow and finishes off the song very nicely. Juvie and Wayne hadn't collaborated in a while, and it was very refreshing get a true Cash Money record.
77. Trippin (feat. Kehlani) x EARTHGANG
Release Date: September 9th, 2019
Dreamville's Earthgang played a major part in the label's 2019 takeover. Their major label debut album was amazing, which even lead to them drawing comparisons to OutKast (I don't agree with this stance, but they drew the comparisons nonetheless). This record in particular is very smooth, the beat reminds me of something Timbaland would do in the late 90s for Aaliyah, and when the beat goes "underwater", Kehlani provides amazing vocals to the record.
76. 7AM (feat. Warhol.Ss) x Kai Ca$h
Release Date: March 11th, 2019
CYN's co-founder came in with a banger with "7AM". This record sounds like the summer, and Kai flows effortlessly over the instrumental. CYN had a breakout year in 2019, and Kai definitely set the pace with this record.
75. Best You Ever Had x Megan Thee Stallion
Release Date: May 17th, 2019
Megan's second entry on the top 100 is a smooth record that still has a lot of bass. On this track, Megan talks about a relationship she's in, knowing her man won't ever get anyone better, and no one in his past can make anything change either. Confidence is as high as it can be on this record, and Megan showcase her versatility with more melody on this record as well.
74. On The Side x IamSu!
Release Date: November 13th, 2019
IamSu's ability to make songs is unrivaled by many hip-hop artists this decade. He showcases his songwriting on this record, as he not onlyy raps, but provides the catchy hook as well. The way the song is structured makes it catchy in general, and the instrumental reminds me of early HBK Gang sound.
73. Juicy (feat. Tyga) x Doja Cat
Release Date: March 1st, 2019
Doja Cat is one of today's most versatile artists, and on "Juicy" she showcases her skill in making pop-trap music. This body positive record is super catchy, and it's happy instrumental makes you wanna dance. She showcases her voice as well as rap skill on the record, and provided a colorful music video to go along with it.
72. Old Town Road (feat. Billy Ray Cyrus) x Lil Nas X
Release Date: April 5th, 2019
Lil Nas X originally made released this record on December 3rd, 2018, and was rising on the charts. However, before reaching the #1 spot on th eBillboard Country chart, the record was removed for, to put it the way they did, "not (embracing) enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version,". Billy Ray Cyrus decided to hop on a remix and help the young kid, a middle finger to Billboard in a sense, and the song not only went back top top that chart, but would break the record and hold the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 consecutive weeks. "Old Town Road" has also gone on to be certified diamond by the RIAA.
71. In My Room x Frank Ocean
Release Date: November 2nd, 2019
Frank Ocean has been pretty quiet, as usual, but this record showed that he's gonna be making a lot more noise soon. The cover of the single shows 17 different poses, which may be showing that his upcoming album will be a 17-track project. This record in particular is very catchy, Frank showcases his rap skills and also gets some vocals off. Playing this record on repeat will have you confused where it starts and ends though, but don't worry, you'll enjoy every minute of it.
70. Triggered (freestyle) x Jhené Aiko
Release Date: May 8th, 2019
Jhene Aiko is one of the greatest R&B artists of this decade, as she has a special way of descrying relationships, or the fall of them, through music. On this record, Aiko speaks to an ex about the way she's still triggered about their previous relationship/ While it was denied, I'm pretty sure we all know this is about Big Sean, as they had broken up only two months prior. Also, the two have been seen together all year, as well as collaborated. Wish nothing but the best for the two of them, they create great music, and I hope they are at peace with each other.
69. 1 Question (feat. Jeremih, Rick Ross & Chris Brown) x E-40
Release Date: July 26th, 2019
E-40 released his 26th album this year, a phenomenal feat for any artist. This record shows that hip-hop legend can still make an R&B record, and get top tier features as well. The song is great, with a Jeremih hook, his specialty, as well as a Rick Ross feature. Chris Brown even blesses the record with a verse, good vibes all around.
68. OUT WEST (feat. Young Thug) x JACKBOYS
Release Date: December 27th, 2019
This record is the latest entry on the top 100 this year, as Travis Scott's label compilation album JACKBOYS came during the last week of the decade. Young Thug and Travis never miss, and the trend continues here on their 11th official collaboration. This beat hits really hard, bass knocking and the flute adds a different vibe. This song is impossible to listen to without bobbing your head at the very least.
67. Water (feat. Lil Baby) x Schoolboy Q
Release Date: April 26th, 2019
Schoolboy Q was the biggest TDE artist to release this year, and he didn't disappoint with his Crash Talk album. On this record, Q and Lil Baby trade verses about their extravagant lifestyles, also comparing their jewelry, or ice, to water.
66. ARE WE STILL FRIENDS? x Tyler, The Creator
Release Date: May 17th, 2019 (leaked on May 7th, 2019)
Tyler's production is beautiful on this record. He samples Al Green's 1977 record "Dream" and it's amazing. Over this beautiful instrumental, Tyler talks to an ex, asking about their relationship status, whether or not they'll be able to remain at least friends after the breakup. A beautiful record, as Tyler went even further into his R&B bag on this IGOR album.
65. Heartless x The Weeknd
Release Date: November 27th, 2019
The Weeknd is back with a vengeance with this record. He released Heartless just last month, and his fourth album is on the way. On this track, Abel gets off plenty of toxic lyrics over a Metro Boomin beat, flexing his carelessness and recklessness. The record is super toxic, but a great listen. The music video also gives perspective, as The Weeknd is high out of his mind while going through Las Vegas.
64. Simon Says (feat. Juicy J) x Megan Thee Stallion
Release Date: May 17th, 2019
This is a party record all the way through. The song starts off with a very short sample fo "Mr. & Mrs. Jones", and then winds down into Juicy J's hard production. This song is impossible to play and not have people dancing, and if you want the party to go up, turn on Megan Thee Stallion.
63. Morning Glory x Kehlani
Release Date: February 22nd, 2019
This is a beautiful record that's an ode to woman being their true authentic selves and being loved. Kehlani speaks to anyone who'd want her, saying that if they don't want her without the makeup nails, and more, they don't deserve her at all. The original instrumental was supposed to have a strong sample of TLC's 1994 classic "Waterfalls" (something I would LOVE to hear), but it wasn't cleared.
62. Come Thru (feat. Usher) x Summer Walker
Release Date: October 4th, 2019
Summer Walker may be kinda problematic outside of the studio, but when she is in the studio, she doesn't disappoint. London On Da Track samples Usher's classic 1997 hit "U Make Me Wanna", and Usher even makes a guest appearance to vocally takeover the instrumental one more time, 22 years later. This is a great R&B record that will definitely last. Good music is undeniable, and this is definitely good music.
61. Sue Me (feat. Kelly Price) x Wale
Release Date: October 11th, 2019
Wale is unapologetically black on this record, as he lets the world know where his allegiance lies. He rhymes over a sample of the Mississippi Childrens Choir's "I''m Blessed", as the vocals are the main focus of the background throughout the record. Kelly Price even joins in with her iconic voice as a guest feature. Wale gave the world a beautiful record as an ode to his people, a truly underrated artists from this past decade.
60. Naughty (feat. Jeremih) x King Combs
Release Date: March 29th, 2019
King Combs makes good music, it's hard to try and dispute this. On this record, the Bad Boy emcee get Jeremih to deliver a great hook and raps to a woman about what he's trying to do, pretty much all flirtatious bars. Similar to "Good To Ya", C3 definitely is in his bag for the girl records. Not only that, he's still just starting out, and I look forward to what he has in store in the future.
59. Your Peace (feat. Lil Baby) x Jacquees
Release Date: March 22nd, 2019
Jacquees made waves in the industry in 2018 due to his cover of Ella Mai's "Trip" single, causing major controversy. However, he showed his ability to make his own record with "Your Peace". The record samples R. Kelly's "If I'm Wit You", and adds a lot of bass and production around the initial sample for a more modern feel. Lil' Baby also makes a guest appearance on the song, adding to its more current feel. This song sounds good at all times of the day, a great record.
58. On Chill (feat. Jeremih) x Wale
Release Date: July 12th, 2019
Wale makes a very smooth record with "On Chill". Jeremih delivers an amazing hook, and Wale speaks about a very loose relationship, according to the artist himself on Genius, he wrote, "...with Tinder and all these things going on. Long distance relationships and people trying to chase their dreams, not really having all the time to give to build a relationship. It’s just the world we live in right now". While I myself am not a part of this new era way of relationships, I understand what Wale means and he describes it flawlessly with a great record. The beautiful instrumental samples Raphael Saadiq’s 1995 record “Ask Of You” from the soundtrack for Higher Learning. Wale's record has become certified gold by the RIAA since it's release.
57. Reachin' 2 Much (feat. Lalah Hathaway) x Anderson .Paak
Release Date: April 11th, 2019
Anderson .Paak is a true artist. On this two part record, he is in a relationship with a woman and questions her motives, and on the second half he lets her know that there's too much going on in the relationship on multiple fronts. He even gets an assist from the R&B legend Lalah Hathaway on this record, nothing but good vibes.
56. Throw It Back x Chris Brown
Release Date: June 28th, 2019
Chris Brown's versatility is undefeated. On this record, J.R. Rotem samples Aaliyah's 1994 classic "Back & Forth", and Chris turns it up over the modernized instrumental, letting his woman know exactly what he wants. This upbeat record is perfect for the summer, as the beat sounds immaculate with the sun shining on your skin.
55. Michelle (feat. feat. Elle Varner) x Rapsody
Release Date: August 23rd, 2019
On Rapsody's Eve album, she pays homage to many black female historical figures and artists, and on this record, she pays homage to Michelle Obama. Elle Varner, who to me is a greatly under appreciated artist, joins Rapsody on the hook, and the record is fun and reminds me of something that would play in a club back in the day. A very solid record from one of hip-hop's best emcees.
54. Locationships x YBN Cordae
Release Date: January 28th, 2019
YBN Cordae pays homage to Jay-Z's 2001 classic record "Girls, Girls, Girls" with this modern version of the song. Cordae speaks about all of the different women that he has in his life, ranging from a chick in the Bay, the rich one in Los Angeles, and even one far away in Texas, Cordae has them in the bag. This is a great record to play in the summer, for the great vibes it gives off.
53. Iced Out Gold Chain x Guapdad 4000
Release Date: October 25th, 2019
Guapdad 4000 is very good at braggadocios rap, and he showcases it here on this record. He talks about wanting to make it, and is very adamant about how bad he needs it. This isn't necessarily regular bragging rap, as he's speaking from the perspective of someone who doesn't have everything that he wants just yet. Guapdad's come up this year has been astronomical, and this song is definitely something that's coming into fruition for the young Oakland rap star.
52. A BOY IS A GUN* x Tyler, The Creator
Release Date: May 17th, 2019
Tyler shows off his production throughout IGOR, but this is one of the best examples. He samples Ponderosa Twins Plus One's "Bound", the same record that Kanye West used from "Bound 2", but as you hear, it's a completely different flip. On the record, Tyler compares a relationship to gun ownership, while it also caused more rumors about his potential bisexuality. The record is beautiful anyway you look at it, and the video that came with it gave great aesthetics, something that Tyler has perfected over the years. "A BOY IS A GUN*" would peak at #74 on the Billboard Hot 100.
51. Top Down x EARTHGANG
Release Date: September 6th, 2019
On this record, EARTHGANG are living carefree, on the run from the police through the city while unleashing a barrage of rhymes over the fun, fast paced instrumental. Though this song came out near the end of summer 2019, I still think it needs to be appreciated more when the sun begins to warm us up in 2020. I believe this record could've had a great music video, but we can only imagine.
50. Come Together (feat. H.E.R.) x Chris Brown
Release Date: June 28th, 2019
Chris Brown's Indigo was a work of art, and I truly believe it's a classic. CB and H.E.R. croon over One Way's 1984 track, "Don't Stop", telling their respective lovers to spend the night. The bass makes the song hit hard during the day, while the smooth R&B vibes let it still slap at night. A great record by two R&B superstars.
49. The Take (feat. Chris Brown) x Tory Lanez
Release Date: November 15th, 2019
Tory's Chixtape series is nothing short of greatness. On this record, he modernizes Chris Brown’s 2007 R&B hit “Take You Down”, and gets CB to join him on the record to bring back all of the vibes from 12 years ago. Someone is forsake going to have kids to this one.
48. BROWN SKIN GIRL (feat. Blue Ivy Carter) x Beyoncé, SAINt JHN & Wizkid
Release Date: July 19th, 2019
This record is a beautiful ode to the black woman. This group of artists sing about the beauty in melinated skin that has been hated upon for hundreds of years. The music video is beautiful as well, showing many different shades, and sending such a positive message to the black community. Black women, know your skin is beautiful!
47. Up Late x Ari Lennox
Release Date: April 29th, 2019
This is pure R&B/Soul music. Ari Lennox details a sexual encounter on this record, and it hits different at night. When this record came out a week before Shea Butter Baby's release, I knew that her debut album was gonna set a tone for her career. Ari is in her own lane in the R&B genre, and the young star will only continue to grow as an artist.
46. Goin Baby x Da Baby
Release Date: March 1st, 2019
DaBaby gets in his braggadocios rap bag over this JetsonMade produced record. He speaks about his crazy lifestyle and more over the record, and in the music video, he parades through the New York City streets. This record will be looked upon as one of hit classic hits later down the line, as it was certified gold by the RIAA.
45. Time (feat. Mac Miller & Kali Uchis) x Free Nationals
Release Date: June 12th, 2019
The Free Nationals make some of the smoothest music out today. On this record, Kali Uchis handles the role of lead singer, speaking about not wanting to let a relationship fall apart, even though time may have run it's course. Mac Miller's posthumous verse is amazing, and I thank Mac's family for it's clearance. This is a groovy record from one of the best bands out today.
44. Make It Better (feat. Smokey Robinson) x Anderson .Paak
Release Date: April 4th, 2019
Andy showcases his skills as an R&B artist with this record, detailing lovers who've fallen out of love. However, this isn't a sad record, as he plays the role of a man who wants to reignite the spark that he and his lover once had. He even gets the great Smokey Robinson to join him on the hook. This record is beautiful, and the message behind it is beautiful as well, if you truly love someone, never give up (please don't take this the wrong way and allow yourself to be taken advantage of though).
43. U Say (feat. Tyler, The Creator & Jay Prince) x Goldlink
Release Date: June 6th, 2019
Goldlink makes beautiful music, and on this record, he blends his melodies with his rap skill. He delivers a great first verse, similar to how he did on his hit "Crew" in 2017, and then Tyler, The Creator delivers an amazing second verse, while Jay Prince and Goldlink handle the hook together. The record even came with a great music video, enjoy!
42. Don't Waste My Time (feat. Ella Mai) x Usher
Release Date: December 13th, 2019 (leaked on November 19th, 2019)
Usher is back ladies and gentlemen. After a lackluster collaboration with Zaytoven (in my opinion), Usher returned to his roots, linking up with Jermaine Dupri for the production of his upcoming album, Confessions 2. Yes, the diamond certified R&B classic is getting a sequel, and based on the first single, it's gonna be a good one. Not only does Usher sound like his old self again, he even keeps it modern with a guest appearance from the new era R&B star, Ella Mai. R&B is always better when Usher is in his bag.
41. Who Are You (feat. David Ranier) x Nas
Release Date: July 18th, 2019
I knew I was gonna love this record as soon as it started. Eric Hudson flawlessly samples Ashford & Simpson's 1976 record "Somebody Told a Lie", and Nas destroys this soul beat with his lyrical prowess. He speaks on the lavish lifestyle, people making it out of the hood and then looking down on their former peers, and on the chorus, David Ranier perfectly sums up how we should feel about anyone trying to tell us about who they think we are in their mind. This record was originally recorded during the studio sessions for his cult classic 2012 album, Life Is Good.
40. 10% (feat. Kali Uchis) x Kaytranada
Release Date: December 9th, 2019
Kaytranada delivers his signature production on this record and Kali Uchis delivers great vocals all over it. Her voice is already perfect for the instrumental, as it seems like Kaytranada built the instrumental around her voice and even plays with it at certain points. The song may have come out in December, but it's going to get heavy play from me this summer.
39. On It! (feat. AzChike & 1TakeJay) x King Combs
Release Date: March 29th, 2019
This trio gets on a bass heavy Bay Area-esque beat and created a banger. Not only is the beat hard, but each artist contributes perfectly. 1TakeJay has one of the best verses of his career on this song in my opinion, and King Combs shows his ability to flow on modern music once again, while AzChike handles the hook. This is a pure summer record, but still sounds great anytime of the year.
38. The Box x Roddy Ricch
Release Date: December 6th, 2019
Roddy Ricch released his debut album in December and helped us end the decade with some heat. On this record, Roddy delivers his signature vocals over an infectious beat that begins with symphony sounds that coincide with an "eee err" sound that Roddy did himself...as soon as the bass drop, it's over. The song hits the entire way through, and it's hard not to dance to this one. This will definitely be in the summer rotation.
37. Have Mercy x YBN Cordae
Release Date: March 7th, 2019
YBN Cordae unleashes a barrage of bars all over this instrumental, as he raps about a multitude of different topics within the 3 minutes. He speaks about his come up in the industry, fake friends being cut off, being the greatest, and most of all, needing mercy for the life he lives. He annotated his single on Genius about this and elaborated, "We all need prayer. We only seem to relate the shit when it hits home, when it’s relatable to us or we know somebody that could be effected. But we need to just be there for like everybody. Humans. You know what I’m sayin'?". The record also came with two very different music videos, and I gave the first one here for you to enjoy.
36. Down Bad (feat. JID, Bas, J. Cole, EARTHGANG & Young Nudy) x Dreamville
Release Date: June 12th, 2019
Dreamville's summer takeover began with the two pack of "Down Bad" and "Got Me". This specific record was a fast paced rap extravaganza, as almost all of Dreamville takes part. JID's Chris is very catchy, and every rapper that has a verse has at least one quotable. This is an overall amazing rap record.
35. CrasH x Schoolboy Q
Release Date: April 23rd, 2019
Schoolboy Q had been relatively quiet since his 2016 Blank Face LP, but he returned with heat on this record. The beat makes me feel like Mac Miller (rest in power) would've been great to add, as well as A$AP Rocky, but Q holds it down flawlessly alone, as he get melodically on the hook and gives bars that speak about his family, his ups and downs, and even his role in what his music does for the youth.
34. K.R.I.T. HERE x Big K.R.I.T.
Release Date: June 7th, 2019
Big K.R.I.T. delivered one of the best introductions of the year with this one. The sample of The Winans' 1984 gospel record "Trust in God" makes a beautiful soul sample, as Grammy-nominated DJ Camper produced the song. Krit also keep his bars clean on this record, not cursing at all over the gospel instrumental.
33. Hot (Remix) [feat. Gunna & Travis Scott] x Young Thug
Release Date: August 16th, 2019
Young Thug's "Hot" opens up with the same horns that J. Cole's "MIDDLE CHILD" open up with, but the beat turns into a bass-driven monster. Both Thug and Gunna flow effortlessly over the beat, and it's very easy to hear why the record peaked at #26 on the Billboard Hot 100. While the original record was already great, the duo put Travis Scott on the official remix and took it to a whole new level.
32. Surf (feat. City Girls, AzChike, & Tee Grizzley) x King Combs
Release Date: March 29th, 2019
On this record, King Combs got the City Girls' Yung Miami to help him create a record that definitely sticks with the listeners. This party track is bass heavy and definitely makes the party go up, as AzChike and Tee Grizzley even join in on the fun. This song definitely was played all through the summer, a trend that should continue for years to come. King Combs not only can bring back the 90s and 2000s, he can make a party go crazy with a modern record as well.
31. Gucci Pajamas (feat. Chance The Rapper & Charlie Wilson) x Guapdad 4000
Release Date: October 3rd, 2019
This record is based on a real life event for the Ferragamo Falcon. After a foursome, his Gucci pajamas were stolen by one of the women involved, and after trying to get them back with multiple different attempts, including talking to the thief, he came up short. Realizing he wasn't going to get his pajamas back, he decided to make a record about it. Not only was he able to get Chance The Rapper back to form on this one (not very fond of his 2019 album as a whole), he even got the legendary Charlie Wilson to get on the record just a few hours before it was set to release. This smooth record goes out to anyone who's ever been robbed by a woman, or anyone you thought you could trust for that matter. Scamway.
30. I Been x Ari Lennox
Release Date: May 7th, 2019
Ari Lennox definitely showed off her range on this record. As she speaks on failed relationships and toxic men in her life, the Dreamville soul singer floats over the bass-filled instrumental. Some people can only sing these notes in the studio, but Ari stepped to the plate for COLORS and sounded exactly like the studio version. In my opinion, Ari Lennox is the best pure vocalist to come out in the last 5 years.
29. Got Muscle (feat. Peewee Longway & WaveIQ) x Goldlink
Release Date: January 24th, 2019
This record has one of my favorite beats of the year, as WaveIQ made something truly special. Goldlink delivers great lyrical verses with his unique flow, and PeeWee Longway delivers a great verse as well, but the production truly elevates the record. A great nighttime record to cruise too, Goldlink didn't disappoint.
28. Racks (feat. YBN Cordae) x H.E.R.
Release Date: June 25th, 2019
The Vallejo superstar talks about something on this record that many people don't understand: money can't buy happiness. While money is great to go and do the thing you want, it's not the reason you're happy. As she says, "All of your racks and things...they don't relax your pain...", you're constantly reminded hat no matter how much you make, the material things are never going to fill all of your voids. YBN Cordae makes a guest appearance on the record as well, delivering good bars over the smooth instrumental. These two young stars made a great song, and I hope to see more collaborations between them in the future.
27. Good To Ya (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) x King Combs
Release Date: March 29th, 2019
King Combs is definitely one of the main artists on this list, but for good reason. This smooth summer record samples Journee's "This and That" from earlier in 2019, and get's Ty Dolla $ign to give one of his iconic hooks. Combs flows effortlessly over this beat, and you can never go wrong with an upbeat record like this.
26. White Lines (feat. Dej Loaf) x Rick Ross
Release Date: August 9th, 2019
The production by CAMEone & Rowan on this record is ridiculous, and DeJ Loaf hasn't sounded this good on a record that I've heard in years. This song is a vibe, as Ross floats over the beat, as Dej vocalizes in the background beautifully. Ross of course get into his braggadocios bag, with plenty of bars flexing his lifestyle, but it sounds so good every time.
25. Rich Nigga Lifestyle (feat. Nipsey Hussle & Teyana Taylor) x Rick Ross
Release Date: August 9th, 2019
This record is insane. From the sample of Jay-Z's "Sweet" to Teyana Taylor's hook, there is nothing you can hate about it. Rick Ross holds it down with his verse, but the true highlight to me was Nipsey Hussle's second verse. The way he came in and lyrically barred this up sent shivers through me and made me want to cry at the same time, as it was amazing to hear one of my favorite rappers do something this great, but made me sad to know that he wasn't with us anymore. It would've been great to get a music video for this one, but not without Nipsey. The record is truly special, as Rick Ross made sure that it was put out the same exact way that Nipsey last heard it, no further changes. Respect.
24. The London (feat. J. Cole & Travis Scott) x Young Thug
Release Date: May 23rd, 2019
Young Thug's lead single to his So Much Fun album definitely set the tone for his biggest sales year to date. With Travis Scott on the hook and a J. Cole feature verse, the T-Minus produced record shot to #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. This record just gives you a good feeling, and Young Thug's vocals during his verse don't take away from the song, if anything they elevate it, letting you know that the record is his. "The London" was not only a top 20 hit, it was certified double platinum by the RIAA and Grammy-nominated.
23. Bad Guy x Billie Eilish
Release Date: March 29th, 2019
Billie Eilish is a very talented artist for her age. The young lady became the first person born in the 21st century to top the Billboard Hot 100 Chart as she dethroned Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" at 17 years old. This record is very different and original, as the production by FINNEAS on this record is more dark, yet playful, to match Billie's lower Lana Del Rey-esque whispery lyrics. While she reminded me of Lana the first time I heard her, she's definitely not the same type of artist. Eilish was another artist to shoot to superstardom this year, as she not only secured a # record, but was also nominated for multiple Grammy awards (award show is on January 26th). I look forward to see what Billie Eilish has in store for the future.
22. Heaven Sent x King Combs
Release Date: March 29th, 2019
King Combs rapped over a Foxy Brown instrumental in 2018, as he got on a sample of the underrated 1999 classic "I Can't" on his 90s Baby mixtape. This time, however, he went and got a sample of the Fox's most recognizable record, 1996's classic "I'll Be". On this record, C3 unleashes a barrage of bars, spanning from the loss of his mother (RIP Kim Porter), a shoutout to Ice Cube's Friday movie series, to cutting off fake friends. Combs even covers the old hook that was done by Jay-Z on the original hit record. Similar to Tory Lanez, King Combs is undefeated at nostalgic songs, and if you hear an old sample on a C3 record, just know that he's coming with heat.
21. Perfect Ten (feat. Nipsey Hussle) x Mustard
Release Date: June 28th, 2019
This soft and smooth record was very motivational for me personally, as Nipsey not only posthumously flowed over this instrumental, but multiple quotes from his interviews were put-on the record as well. This was the outdo to Mustard's album of the same name, and the way the song is so calm, yet full of so many gems, was the perfect way to end it, a perfect ten.
20. Beauty In The Benz (feat. Snoop Dogg) x Tory Lanez
Release Date: November 15th, 2019
Tory gets on an insane sample flip of Snoop Dogg's 2002 classic single "Beautiful" and even interpolates a famous Jay-Z line from the 2000 classic single "I Just Wanna Love U" as he called out for the signature Neptunes sound. This record is great, and just like the rest of the album, Tory Lanez got Uncle Snoop to get back on the modernized instrumental for a verse to help him get at the new lady of the Chixtape series, Leah. This beat was already nasty, but I made a thizz face when the beat changed into a mix of stacked vocals after the last chorus. Another great touch was the way the song ended with the sound of someone flipping a switch, and then a soft Snoop Dogg sample played and flowed into the next record. Tory didn't hold back on Chixtape 5.
19. Rule The World (feat. Ariana Grande) x 2 Chainz
Release Date: March 1st, 2019
When I first heard this record, I had no clue who was featured, and I genuinely thought that 2 Chainz got Mariah Carey to record a classic hook in 2019. However, it was an honest mistake, and it was Ariana Grande that provided the classic hook. Honestly, if you were to play this for someone who never heard the album or seen the trackless, they would think it was Mariah as well. As far as the rest of the record, it samples Amerie's 2002 classic single "Why Don't We Fall In Love", an absolutely immaculate sample for this duo. A beautiful record all around, it sounds great at all times of the day, and in my opinion, should've been Grammy-nominated.
18. My Type x Saweetie
Release Date: March 29th, 2019
Saweetie has been rising in the industry for the past couple of years, but this song is the one that took her to a whole new level. This Bay Area (I know some of you think she's from Sacramento, I used to think so too, but she only went to high school out there, she's from Hayward) rap star sampled Petey Pablo's classic "Freek-A-Leek" and turned into a banger for the new generation. Her lyrics on this track hit when they need to, and this beat is something that will automatically catch the ear of listeners. "My Type" is also the official song of ML3 For The Culture's "For The Culture Podcast" (since Ep. 16 of the same name, check it out on Spotify and other major platforms). Saweetie's breakout hit would go on to peak at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as be certified platinum by the RIAA.
17. Sanguine Paradise x Lil Uzi Vert
Release Date: April 9th, 2019 (leaked on March 31st, 2019)
Lil Uzi's long awaited album Eternal Atake still hasn't been released, but we did get something from the superstar this year besides pushbacks. When this record plays, it's hard not to wanna move, as the horns and bass catch the listener immediately after the first big drop. Uzis signature flow is all over the record, and it did seem to calm fans for a few weeks while waiting for the album. However, Eternal Atake still hasn't released, despite getting a new single from Uzi, "Futsal Shuffle 2020", on December 13th, 2019.
16. Threat 2 Society x 2 Chainz
Release Date: March 1st, 2019
9th Wonder's production never misses, and this record is further proof of it. The hip-hop legend samples The Truthettes 1980 record "So Good to Be Alive" and makes a beautiful loop for 2 Chainz to get bars off. I'm very disappointed that this song wasn't able to get the Jay-Z remix after the line "This beat so hard I could put Jay on it" as well as the Diddy cosign. Despite this, the song is absolutely amazing, and I definitely need 2 Chainz in the studio with 9th Wonder in the future.
15. Jerry Sprunger (feat. T-Pain) x Tory Lanez
Release Date: November 8th, 2019
Tory's ability to channel the 2000s is almost unmatched. He croons over a sample of T-Pain's classic hit, "I'm Sprung" and gets T-Pain to come back and tear up the instrumental again 14 years after initial release. This record was a hit the second I heard it the first time, and is an amazing record to drive with on at night. As a matter of fact, the first time I heard this song, I was driving with my girlfriend the night it dropped, and it was flawless coming through the speakers. Thank you for bringing the vibes back Tory, I appreciate it.
14. Suge x DaBaby
Release Date: March 1, 2019
DaBaby's breakout hit was definitely one of the top 20 record of the year. The hit record not only got Grammy nominated (awards on January 26th), it was certified double platinum by the RIAA. The Charlotte native's fast paced bars shot him to superstardom, and now he goes where he wants, good.
13. Higher (feat. Nipsey Hussle & John Legend) x DJ Khaled
Release Date: May 17th, 2019
This record brought tears to my eyes when I first listened to it, not only because of how good it is, but also because I was watching the last music video that Nipsey was able to take part in. Nip details his family on this record, from his grandmother, his father, to his children and lover, over a choir filled instrumental backed by strong John Legend vocals. This record seems like it was going to be the continuance of the new era of Nipsey, as he had released "Racks In The Middle" (#5 on this list) earlier in the year, and was beginning to get more high profile features. He doesn't disappoint on this one, and it only saddens me that we were all robbed to see what else the legend had in store for us this year.
12. EARFQUAKE x Tyler, The Creator
Release Date: May 7th, 2019
Tyler's biggest song this year was easily this record. Not only did he continue where he left off, venturing with R&B music as he did on Flowerboy, he seems to have perfected it. His production (yes, he produced this and all of his IGOR album), is beautiful, and on this one he doesn't even sample any older records (at least according to what I've been able to find). Playboi Carti also makes an appearance on this record, with his fast and misunderstood lyrics going quickly over the smooth instrumental. The music video for this record is also hilarious, as Tyler seems to be on a night show as the musical guest for none other than Tracee Ellis Ross.
11. Before I Let Go (Homecoming Live Bonus Track) x Beyoncé
Release Date: April 17th, 2019
Beyoncé is very good at making songs her own, and even though we all know and enjoy the original version of this record, Bey's version is definitely a great listen. Beyoncé covers Frankie Beverly & Maze's classic track of the same name, and even contains elements of Cameo's classic "Candy" as well as a sample of DJ Jubilee's "Ready". Ms. Carter is joined by the live band and Tay Keith's (as well as her own) production around it to create a beautiful record. Homecoming not only was an amazing film, but a great album full of beautiful music. This one just happens to be a personal favorite.
10. All Me (feat. Keyshia Cole) x Kehlani
Release Date: December 23rd, 2019
Kehlani teased this song months ago, and her fanbase (including myself) demanded that the song be released. After months of social media pressure, Kehlani decided to do what she could to get this record released. It took a while to get things all cleared, but once they did, a top 10 record of the year was finally released. Not only did Kehlani's vocals float over the beat, the Oakland native got the Oakland Queen Keyshia Cole to join her. An amazing record that may have never come out without unwavering support from her fanbase, thank you Kehlani.
9. BMO x Ari Lennox
Release Date: May 7th, 2019
Ari Lennox made a beautiful record. The sample of Galt MacDermot's 1969 record "Space" set the pace, as it did with King Combs' "Bad Girl" last year, and she floated. The record is bouncy, fun, and sounds great at all times of the day. Her debut album Shea Butter Baby was one of the top 10 projects of the year in my opinion, and deserved much more recognition than it's gotten. She may sound like Ms. Erykah Badu at times, but know one thing, there is only one Ari Lennox.
8. Don't Hit Me Right Now (feat. Yung Baby Tate, Guapdad 4000, & Buddy) x Dreamville, Bas, & Cozz
Release Date: July 5th, 2019
This collaboration is my personal favorite on Revenge of The Dreamers III, as Guapdad 4000 opens up the record with a catchy hook over Ari Lennox back vocals. Bas, Buddy, Cozz, and Young Baby Tate trade verses about being too busy to deal with significant other, hence the phrase "don't hit me right now". This record is one of the smoothest this year, as the instrumental itself would've gotten on the list for me. Dreamville's ability to showcase artists not only from their label, but the independents, has been incredible.
7. Birthday Suit x King Combs
Release Date: March 29th, 2019
King Combs showcases his style and artist persona best on this record in my opinion. The sample of Koffee Brown's "After Party" gives the nostalgic vibe he's becoming known for, and is laid back braggadocios flow is perfect over the smooth beat. This song sounds like it came out in the late 90's or early 00's, and there's nothing wrong with that at all, as those eras vibes are slowly becoming "in" again in the mainstream. King Combs' future is bright as the face of Bad Boy Records, and we can only expect more heat in his future discography.
6. Big Ole Freak x Megan Thee Stallion
Release Date: June 11th, 2018
While this song did come out in 2018, it didn't;t truly take off until 2019, so I had to include Meg's breakout hit on this list. The samples of Immature's 1992 "Is It Love This Time?" and Al B. Sure!'s classic "Nite and Day", the beat turns into a beautiful instrumental that Megan smoothly rapped and even sang over. Social media fell in love with the record, the same way that it did with DaBaby's "Suge" (#14 on this list as you've seen). The record would go on the peak at #65 on the Billboard Hot 100 and certified gold by the RIAA.
5. Racks In The Middle (feat. Roddy Ricch & Hit-Boy) x Nipsey Hussle
Release Date: February 15th, 2019
Nipsey Hussle's last single ever was a great one. He got Compton's Roddy Ricch for the hook, and delivered powerful verses that are almost eerie at this point. Nipsey dropped the lines "Damn, I wish my nigga Fatts was here...How you die thirty somethin' after banging all them years?...Grammy-nominated, in the sauna sheddin' tears..." about a childhood friend that he lost, to sadly suffer the same fat less than 2 months later. May the rap legend rest in power, the marathon continues.
4. How You Want It? (feat. King Combs) x Teyana Taylor
Release Date: August 2nd, 2019
This record is absolutely amazing. There have been many different renditions and covers of Ma$e's 1997 classic "What You Want" with Total, but no one has been able to make anything this close. Teyana not only sings an infectious hook, she went and got the son of Bad Boy Records' founder to add a feature verse. King Combs not only gave an amazing verse, the only other person that would be fitting to do a guest feature over this beat correctly would be Ma$e himself. The music video pays homage to Bad Boy's classic as well as putting Teyana's own special vision on it. A great record by two artists that know exactly how to bring back the 90's vibes.
3. Cash Shit (feat. DaBaby) x Megan Thee Stallion
Release Date: May 17th, 2019
Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby are clearly this year's two new superstars, as they have both rose to the top with authenticity and new original styles. The two were on a collision course as their perspective fans wanted a collaboration, and the duo delivered. Megan owns the record of course, it's her single, but DaBaby definitely holds it down on his verse with quotable that lasted throughout the year. The record would go on to peak at #36 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was certified platinum by the RIAA as well. I definitely hope to see more collaborations by these two in the future.
2. MIDDLE CHILD x J. Cole
Release Date: January 23rd, 2019
J. Cole's Dreamville has had one of the biggest impacts of the decade, as Cole has cemented himself among hip-hop's greats. On "Middle Child", J. Cole talks about being the middle child of hip-hop, stuck in between the old and new generations of the genre. Middle children often feel neglected, due to the treatment of the older and younger siblings, and in Cole's case, this makes perfect sense. It's become habit to make fun of J. Cole, something I will never understand, being a day one fan of the artist. However, Cole channelled the hate into an amazing record, which would go on to peak at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and become certified 4x platinum by the RIAA. People sure are listening and buying his music to hate him so much, aren't they?
1. No Guidance (feat. Drake) x Chris Brown
Release Date: June 8th, 2019
This record is the song of the year hands down. Nobody expected these two music icons to collaborate (given their extensive history), but they were able to put their differences aside and create something special. This record sounds good at any time of the day, especially at night, as the bass drops and the song takes over wherever you are with Drake's opening lyrics. Chris reminded the industry once again of his talent with this one, and his vocals take over the record just as much as Drake's do. The two compliment each other very well on the track, and I hope to see more from the duo in the future. The two artists also addressed the elephant in the room with their music video, which is absolutely hilarious. This out of nowhere collaboration would peak at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and end up being certified platinum by the RIAA. In my opinion, Chris Brown not only gave us the record of the year with "No Guidance", but easily the album of the year with Indigo as well.
Now that we're in 2020, a new era of music is on the horizon. I hope to see more hits from all of these artists, as well as new artists to join the ranks of cemented stars. May we all continue to all enjoy great music in this decade. Black people...stay together.
