ML3's Top 100 Songs of 2024

2024 was one of the best and most important years for music in recent memory, and the variety was amazing. That variety was seen by the different albums released under different genres and the resetting of culture in hip-hop after the beef between Kendrick Lamar & Drake. With that being said, the different genres that gave us amazing bodies of work are one thing, but the songs of the year are a different story. This top 100 list of 2024 songs is based on my listening experience, and might not include songs that you listen to, despite them being on some of the albums on my top albums of the year list. The cultural reset that this year had during the hip-hop beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar highlights the reason why so many songs are placed where they are, and if that makes me biased, it’s because I am. I have no reason to hide my biases, because again, this is based on my listening experience and what I value in music. If you believe that I left some songs out, feel free to comment on this article below and give your opinions! I love to discuss music and if I haven't heard something great, I have no problem going to listen.

Record of the Year: Kendrick Lamar x euphoria

I picked "euphoria" as the record of the year because it set a precedent that was followed by a strategic takedown of what we can now see as an inauthentic and selfish takeover of a genre built around community & sport. As much as I've enjoyed Drake’s music since 2007, after almost 18 years of growing up and becoming an adult, it’s easy to see that he didn’t do the same. Kendrick Lamar and others have grown throughout their respective careers, while artists similar to Drake have grown commercially, but not personally. Dot's "euphoria" was not only a master class in rap and a great diss record, it was best one of the entire back & forth. In my opinion, it showcased how important culture was through his lyrics and the reaction to them, seeing what we’ve been seeing for the past six months from the other side of the argument. Kendrick Lamar’s 2024 will go down not only in hip-hop history but in music history. I can’t wait to see what 2025 brings, as the industry should continue to become a great landscape for true artistry moving forward.
